1943 -
Theodore E. Clark founded Atlas Industries, Inc.,
and started a small machine shop in Woodville, Ohio.
He began operations with five employees and
manufactured various types of crankshafts, as well
as, other precision machined parts for the U.S.
Government to assist in the war effort. |

1954 -
Atlas’ reputation as a machining supplier spread and
the company started a new division in the nearby
village of Gibsonburg as the continuing pattern of
growth called for another facility. Atlas built the
new plant for the production of small and medium
size crankshafts for the refrigeration and air
compressor industries. Since the original structure
was erected there have been seven additions to the
Gibsonburg facility. The largest expansion took
place in 1996 with a 50,000 square foot addition,
bring the total up to 135,000 square feet. |
|
1971 - Atlas acquired a site in Fremont, Ohio used
for warehousing until 1973 when it was expanded into
a machining facility. The Fremont location grew
substantially in 1975 through the acquisition of a
major competitor and the transfer of equipment,
tooling, and some personnel. The company moved its
corporate offices in 1992. The Fremont Plant has
since been expanded on 3 occasions and now covers
approximately 80,000 square feet. |

1986 -
Atlas opened another machining plant in Tiffin, Ohio to
facilitate new customer growth. This step increased the
total manufacturing and warehousing capacity of the company
by 252,000 square feet. The Tiffin facility also became the
new home for Atlas’ Machine Tools Division (MTD), which was
relocated from the Gibsonburg Plant in 1986. This Division
designs, retrofits, and rebuilds drilling, milling, turning,
and grinding equipment. |
